Barn Owl Music instructors are passionate musicians who are serious about helping students make music too. Anyone can learn to sing or play an instrument with practice, dedication and guidance.

Ryan Carr, BFA

Guitar - Mandolin - Ukulele - Harmonica - Voice - Piano - Theory - Songwriting

Ryan has been teaching and performing professionally for nearly 20 years. Since his introduction to music in guitar class as a teenager, he has studied jazz performance and composition at York University, bluegrass mandolin at Sore Fingers Summer School, sung with the Orpheus Choir of Toronto and taken lessons with many blues harmonica greats.

As a performer he has toured across Canada, the US and Europe and has appeared on BBC Radio, RBB (Germany) and co-written an album that reached #16 on Norwegian iTunes charts. Ryan is an accomplished songwriter, who draws inspiration from all types of music, particularly rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, folk and country. He teaches all levels of students and has worked with at-risk youth, those with special needs and has taught at shelters throughout his career.

Felipe has over a decade of teaching experience in both the UK and Canada. In his youth he studied classical guitar and bossa nova in his home country Brazil, and performed professionally in Rio de Janeiro until moving to London, England where he continued to take private lessons, perform and teach music. Felipe moved to Canada to complete his BFA in music at York University. Felipe has played professionally in Brazil, the UK, and Canada. Highlights of his career include performances being covered in the national Brazilian Newspaper ‘O Globo,’ and appearing on an album featured on JazzFM’s Jazzology program. He has worked as a side man in numerous projects.

Felipe has studied many styles of music, but is especially fond of the music of his youth – rock, blues, pop, bossa nova, samba and latin jazz. Lessons are available in English and Portuguese.
